New Book by the Founder of Almasdar

We are thrilled to announce the premiere of an academic book written by the founder of Almasdar, Zuzanna Nabulssi-Masełbas, entitled “Egyptian Linguistic Separatism: A Study in Wikipedia Masri.” It was published by the University of Warsaw in the form of an open-access e-book.

The publication is devoted to the linguistic situation in Egypt, focusing on the idea of linguistic secessionism – the belief that Egyptian Arabic is a distinct language separate from Arabic and deserving of official state status. Egyptian linguistic separatism remains a marginal movement, sometimes eliciting extremely negative reactions. In the era of advancing technologies, power struggles, and ideological considerations, the battleground has shifted to the virtual realm. The author meticulously maps out organizations, websites, media outlets, and associations of intellectuals advocating for Egyptian linguistic separatism. She takes the Egyptian-Arabic Wikipedia (Wikipedia Masri) as her starting point, highlighting its mission to elevate the status of the Egyptian variety of Arabic.

We are bursting with pride and encourage you to read it!
